Man, 66, killed in high-speed crash on John Sims Parkway in Niceville

A 66-year-old man died after a high-speed crash on John Sims Parkway near Partin Drive in Niceville, Niceville police said.
Police said the man was traveling east on John Sims Parkway in the outside right lane at a high rate of speed as he approached the intersection. Investigators said he quickly closed the distance on a Toyota Tacoma traveling directly ahead of him, and the front of his vehicle hit the rear of the Tacoma.
The impact lifted the rear of the Tacoma off the ground, and the truck rotated about 100 degrees before hitting a telephone pole, police said. The man’s vehicle kept going east for about 950 feet before it struck the ramps leading to the pedestrian overpass on the north side of the parkway.
Officers arrived about three minutes after the collision and found him unconscious and not breathing. He was removed from the vehicle and given life-saving measures, and he was pronounced dead at 6:32 a.m. The driver of the Tacoma was hurt, was reported to be in stable condition, and has since been released from the hospital, police said.
Preliminary findings indicate he may have had a medical event before the crash that could have contributed to how he was driving. Police said that has not been confirmed and remains under investigation.
