The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office says a 44-year-old man is charged with manslaughter in a deadly shooting near Fort Walton Beach that left one man dead Friday night.
Deputies responded to the Cardinal Street area shortly after 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, after several callers reported shots fired, according to the sheriff’s office.
One man was pronounced deceased at the scene. Deputies arrested 44-year-old Robert Barnes at the scene, and he is now charged with manslaughter, the sheriff’s office said Saturday.
The OCSO Criminal Investigation Division and OCSO Crime Scene Technicians responded and have taken over the investigation, which the sheriff’s office says is ongoing.
OCSO says Barnes and the victim, a man in his thirties, had an argument that turned deadly. The victim’s name has not been released. Barnes is being held at the Okaloosa County Jail in Crestview. OCSO says this was an isolated incident and there is no active threat to the public, and the investigation is ongoing. A charge is an accusation; Barnes is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
