Four charged with murder in Sept. 15 shooting near Fort Walton Beach

Four people are charged with murder in the Sept. 15 shooting death of a 20-year-old man outside an apartment complex near Fort Walton Beach – a killing the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office says happened during an attempted robbery.

The shooting happened around 1:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 15, outside apartment buildings off Rickey Avenue and David Street, in the Ocean City area just outside Fort Walton Beach. Despite his injuries, the victim was able to drive to a nearby gas station. He was taken to a hospital, where he later died. Authorities have not released his name.

All four arrested face the same charge: murder while engaged in an attempted robbery. Under Florida law, a killing during the commission of a robbery is murder regardless of intent to kill.

Gavin Michael Brady, 18, and Byron Dashaun Williams Jr., 19, were booked into the Okaloosa County Jail the night of Sept. 24, within two minutes of each other. George Nelson-Lee Long, 20, was booked Tuesday morning, Sept. 29. The fourth person charged is Tevin Jerome Posey, 17, named in the sheriff’s office announcement; he does not appear in the county’s public adult jail records. None of the adults has a bond amount set.
