Traffic Stop Leads to Seizure of Suspected Fentanyl, Machine Gun Conversion Device, and Arrests in Crestview

An Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office traffic stop yesterday resulted in the arrest of two individuals and the seizure of suspected fentanyl, cash, and a handgun equipped with an illegal machine gun conversion device.

Deputies initiated a traffic stop on a gray Chevrolet Equinox after observing a traffic violation near the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue and South Lloyd Street in Crestview. As the vehicle slowed to a stop, two passengers fled on foot while the driver left the area in the vehicle.

Deputies quickly apprehended both passengers following a brief foot pursuit.

During the investigation, deputies recovered a backpack allegedly carried by one of the fleeing passengers. Inside were approximately 39 grams of a substance that field-tested positive for fentanyl, approximately $2,400 in cash, and a Glock 17 handgun equipped with a “switch,” an illegal conversion device that allows a semi-automatic firearm to function as a fully automatic weapon. The firearm was also equipped with a 30-round magazine.

One suspect, Nassir Wright, was charged with:

* Trafficking in Fentanyl

* Possession of a Machine Gun

* Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

* Resisting an Officer Without Violence

A second passenger, Christopher Rogers, was charged with:

* Resisting an Officer Without Violence

The investigation remains active.
